Sometimes, we stay when we should leave –
Not because we’re addicted to the pain;
Rather, the feelings we have for the other
is so monumental
That we’d rather feel anything – anything at all
Instead of feeling nothing in return.
Loving another when no love is given in return
Might be the most foolish thing you could do
But for some,
Not giving up when it would have been easier to do so
Speaks volumes to them.
Yet, when you’ve gone through a life of never receiving,
It’s hard to know the taste of love, of kindness.
And somehow you feel dejected, out-of-sorts;
you believe that no one will ever love you in return.
And you trust it,
Even more than you trust your own shadow.
